The grand opening of Mountain View Gardens in Sierra Vista, Ariz., took place in early November. It is owned by Hawthorn Retirement Group based in Redmond, Wash., which has communities throughout the United States and Canada. The new community offers independent living, assisted living and memory care. Studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes are available. Mountain View Gardens offers a full complement of amenities and services including housekeeping and maintenance services, and three chef-prepared meals each day. In addition it has a wide variety of activities, including a wellness and fitness program, seasonal and holiday celebrations, in-house movies, group outings, and transportation for appointments and shopping. or visit: http://www.seniorlivinginstyle.com/retirement_community/Sierra_Vista The Terraces at Harris Ranch -- Boise, ID Construction has not yet started on The Terraces at Harris Ranch, a new continuing care retirement community (life care) set on 12.6 acres in East Boise, Idaho. Plans call for 153 apartments, 12 cottages, assisted living units, and nursing care. Reservations with deposits are now being taken. Construction will begin once 75 percent of the 165 apartments and cottages are sold, which is expected to take nine months. Residents pay the one-time entrance fee and then monthly fees, depending on what they need. Entrance fees start at $140,000 for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. Monthly fees start at $1,600. When a resident decides to move out of the community or dies, 90 percent (95 percent for charter members) of the entrance fee will be returned to the resident or his or her heirs. The community will offer "resort-style living" for people age 62 and older. Amenities planned include three restaurants, a fitness center, a bistro, library, salon and a learning center. Residents will be close to St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, the Boise Air Terminal and Boise State University. The Terraces will be managed by ABHOW,

The three-story building consists of 65 one-bedroom and 18 two-bedroom units and is designed with several features to increase energy efficiency and conservation of raw materials. Energy-efficient, double-pane, low-E windows, water-conserving plumbing fixtures, Energy Star appliances, energy-saving light fixtures and green label carpeting throughout contribute to a healthy, sustainable living environment. Outdoor amenities include a quarter-mile walking path, planter beds, a bocce ball court, an entrance porch and a paved patio off the community room. Interior common areas such as a community room, TV lounge, activity room, laundry room, mail room and fitness room are clustered together on one wing of the first floor to encourage socialization among residents. The site provides easy access to neighborhood amenities and public transportation. Two large shopping centers that include retail and grocery stores sit within a two-mile radius, and an abundance of health care providers, restaurants and a thriving senior center are close by. It is the first fee-for-service continuing care retirement community in New York, and offers state-of-the-art accommodations and amenities. Located on 120 acres, the community offers the beauty and serenity of a country setting yet is within minutes of shopping, restaurants, doctors' offices and other important services. The $67 million project will have 154
independent living cottages and apartments when completed. There is a
modern clubhouse; multiple dining options, including a Village Pub;
social areas and a fitness center/swimming pool and spa. In addition
residents will find other amenities such as a creative arts studio,
coffee bar, library, a country store, a social hall, and outdoor

The town was chosen as one of the best places to live in 2008 by Money magazine. It is the southern gateway to the culture and entertainment of the Twin Cities metro area. Known as Trinity Landing, the community will be an 82-unit, $10 million senior living facility. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2010. Trinity Landing will be the company's first senior living facility in Louisiana. Another is planned for Shreveport. Covington has experienced rapid population growth in recent years, particularly since Hurricane Katrina. The community will offer three meals a day served in a common dining area, housekeeping services, transportation, emergency call systems for each resident's apartment, health promotion and exercise programs, medication reminders, personal laundry services plus social, religious, and recreational activities. The Retreat at Carmel is a new active adult condominium community (age 55+) located in picturesque Putnam County that is being developed by Pulte Homes. It is a community made up of 35 patio homes with two-car garages, 222 independent living apartments, 64 assisted living apartments, 63 residences for nursing care, and 20 memory support residences spread across the campus. Patio homes are between 1,589 to 2,000 square feet; apartments, from 761 to 2,106 square feet. All rooms are private with in-suite bathrooms. Residents pay entrance fees and monthly fees based on the housing size. Entrance fees range from $168,200 to $474,600; monthly fees run from $2,078 to $4,832. Amenities include a salon and day spa, arts studio, gym with fitness equipment, pool and hot tub, billiards room and a movie theatre. The community also has a clinic. A nurse practitioner is available daily for general maladies, flu shots and such. Doctors, specialists and general practitioners, come in regularly. or visit: http://www.providencepoint.org Westmont of Morgan Hill -- Morgan Hill, CA Westmont Senior Living, a regional provider of independent living, assisted living and memory care services for seniors, has announced it will open its newest full service community for seniors, Westmont of Morgan Hill, in early spring 2010. This latest addition to Westmont's planned West Coast expansion will feature a variety of apartment styles, including 67 independent living and assisted living units, all with kitchens. In addition, the new community will offer 19 suites for its memory care residents. In keeping with Westmont's "Live Your Way" activities program, the community will offer a range of fitness programs, crafts, cultural, and life-long learning opportunities. Additional amenities will include an on-site movie theater, a bistro,
a hair salon, and a fitness center. Apartments are pre-wired for
high-speed Internet and cable television. Pets are welcome. While
Westmont of Morgan Hill offers a full complement of services and
amenities, accessible transportation will be available to residents

The $16.8 million project will have 80 rental units for seniors aged 55 and over. All of the units will be set aside for senior households with incomes at or below 60% of the Area Median Income for the Kingston (NY) area, or $40,650 for a family of two. The developer is Birchez Associates LLC,
which is controlled by Steven L. Aaron and Elant, Inc. Elant will have
an on-site office and provide health care services to the residents.
This is the third senior community of its kind in the county developed
by Birchez Associates. These three provide over 200 units of
affordable senior housing. The other communities are located in the
New York towns of Ulster and Saugerties. A fourth community, The
Birches at Chambers, is currently under construction in Ulster. For

http://www.birchez.com/ The Village at The Woodlands Waterway -- The Woodlands, TX Bridgewood Property Company has broken ground on The Village at The Woodlands Waterway,a retirement community located north of Houston in The Woodlands, Texas. The eight-story community will consist of 207 rental units at 2323 Lake Robbins Drive overlooking The Waterway and The Woodlands Town Center. The 240,000-square-foot property will contain 63 assisted living units, 28 memory care units and 116 independent living units. The community is slated to open in spring 2011. The Village at The Woodlands Waterway will include extensive common areas, including a dining room overlooking The Waterway, a living room, library, bridge room, theater and fitness center with indoor pool. Other amenities and services offered to residents will include flexible meal programs; controlled access parking; scheduled activities, events and transportation; a billiards room; computer room; 24-hour on-site management; cultural guild programs, and landscaped courtyards. Studio, one bedroom, one-bedroom plus study and two-bedroom apartments will be offered. The apartments will feature full kitchens with full-sized refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher and garbage disposal. Individual climate controls, stackable washer/dryer, walk-in shower with safety bars and telephone and cable connections are standard. Nine-foot ceilings and mini-blinds throughout, wall-to-wall carpet in living rooms and bedrooms, and tile in kitchens and baths will also be included. The Woodlands is a 28,000-acre
master-planned community located 27 miles north of downtown Houston.
Bridgewood Property has developed 12 senior living communities

Legend at Capitol Ridge -- Topeka, KS Legend Senior Living, based in Wichita, Kans., will begin construction this month of Legend at Capitol Ridge, a senior living facility that will provide 51 assisted living apartments and 15 suites for dementia residents. It will cost about $9.1 million and will take about 12 months to complete. Legend has 11 facilities -- four in
Kansas, four in Oklahoma and three in Florida. For more information

community. The Tradition--Sugar Land -- Sugar Land, Texas Tradition Senior Living has announced plans to develop a full-service retirement community in a resort-style setting in Sugar Land, Texas. Set to open in mid-2011, Tradition-Sugar Land will be the first continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in southwest Houston and eastern Fort Bend County. It will incorporate accommodations for independent and assisted living residents, including those needing memory care. The community will be located in the master-planned community of Lake Pointe Town Center, a mixed-use development in First Colony -- a 9,700-acre master planned community located in Sugar Land. Planned Community Developers, Ltd., developer of First Colony, will sell Lake Pointe West to Tradition pending approvals by the City of Sugar Land. The new community will offer resort-style amenities not typically found in independent or assisted living communities, including concierge services, five-star cuisine and spa services in the beauty/barber salon. Custom features, including granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and crown molding, will be standard in each residence. In addition, The Tradition does not require a large up-front entrance fee typically charged by other CCRCs. Residents in these homes will also have access to health services like a nurse practitioner on-site and entry into The Meadows, Edgewood's skilled nursing facility. They or their estate will also get back 90% of their entrance fee when they are no longer living at Edgewood. The homes are being constructed on the 300 year old Stevens Farmstead and will range in size from 1,750 to 2,450 square feet. The homes will feature highly-livable, single-level space with natural light, tray ceilings, recessed lighting and specialty moldings, granite countertops, custom crafted wood built-ins, gas fireplaces, two-car garages and full basements. The homes were designed with carefree maintenance and green objectives in mind that include features such as Energy Star Certified 95% efficient gas heating systems, cement fiber siding made of 30% post-industrial materials, and native red oak flooring which typically has a lower carbon footprint than something like bamboo. The Stratford at Kenwood -- Cincinnati, OH Now under construction and scheduled to open in March 2010 The Stratford at Kenwood is a continuing care retirement community located on 20 acres of wooded terrain with sweeping views of Cincinnati, graced by a classic metropolitan high-rise design with a warm, inviting interior ambiance. Future residents can choose from one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes, penthouses and cottages that provide maintenance-free modern living, comfort, convenience and security. When completed, the community will boast five dining venues, concierge service, personalized wellness programs and housekeeping among other services. Its 16-story residence tower will house roughly 215 apartments. In addition, 28 specialized apartments for residents with varied medical needs will be offered. The 31-acre development with 40 single-story condominium homes is in the first phase of the 20th Street Northwest property. It is located just north of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community campus. The idea is to offer independent living through Eisenach Village and continuing care at Bartels. The project is being built by Ohio-based Epcon Communities, which has developed 140 retirement communities in 31 states since 1986. Eisenach Village has partnered with Wartburg College to provide life-long learning programs and is expected to attract Wartburg alumni. Community residents will not only enjoy independent living in a beautiful home, but also the ready access to the vibrant educational life of Wartburg. The college, on the other hand, will benefit from the opportunity to develop intergenerational curricular and co-curricular initiatives for the educational enrichment of our students. The Eisenach Village homes will have six different floor plans and range in size from 1,100 to 1,800 square feet with a "pinwheel design." The 316-unit high-rise community has undergone total exterior and interior renovations, and offers amenities such as brand new, fully equipped kitchens, free high-speed Internet, a fitness center, gated off-street parking, resident services, and on-site banking. Rents are at levels affordable to income-restricted families and senior citizens, and start at $900/month. Formerly known as Parkside Terrace, this apartment rental community offers one- and two-bedroom floor plans with exceptional features and first class amenities. The Village of St. Martha's Senior Living Community -- Detroit, MI Late in July the Village of St. Martha's Senior Living Community, a 45-unit complex of government subsidized apartments for seniors, celebrated its grand opening. The newly constructed, three-story building was made possible through a $5.4 million grant awarded by the U.S. Development of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and is located on 2.8 acres. Because the construction of The Village of St. Martha's was made possible through funding from HUD, the apartments are available to those 62 years of age or older who meet the specified income limits. Rent is based on 30% of an individuals adjusted gross annual income. Gross annual income may not exceed $24,850 per individual and $28,400 for two people. Each apartment has wall-to-wall carpeting, an individual heating/cooling system, a fully equipped kitchen, cable access, an emergency call system and window blinds. Some of the apartments are specially designed for mobility-impaired residents. Communal amenities include an activity center, exercise room, library and computer center. The Village of St. Martha's Senior
Living Community is operated by Presbyterian Villages of Michigan (PVM).
It is PVM's sixth new senior living community in Detroit since 1997.
